Carbonari also emphasizes that lactating cows are generally more susceptible and “more delicate,” making herd management increasingly challenging as production systems intensify.

According to her, newer strategies, therapies, and treatments can help farms better manage these high-risk animals. She also underlines the critical role of the dry period, describing it as fundamental for fertility. Proper dry period management, she says, is not a secondary option—it is necessary to support fertility and ultimately secure consistent milk output.
